Godwin Obaje’s 11th goal of the season for the Anambra Warriors in the 80th minute and an instant response in the form of a spectacular goal from a set piece play in the 81st minute from Mbaoma Victor ensured that both sides shared the spoil in a Matchday 28 fixture of the Nigerian Professional Football League played on Tuesday at the Gateway International Stadium Shagamu.

The technical crew led by Coach Yaw Preko effected just two changes to the side that defeated Katsina United at home last Sunday as Drissa Bamba made the team ahead of Ezenwa Ikechukwu while Isaac Baadu made his debut for the team coming ahead of Msonter Tony.

The game started on a ferocious note in Shagamu with the Sky Blue Stars firing on all cylinders missing a host of chances with Goal Keeper Drissa Bamba twice denying Mbaoma’s shot from a freekick and Awazie’s drive, while the Anambra Warriors could have gone in front save for Goalkeeper Ndukwe Chizoba who repelled Adeleye’s freekick and Obaje’s effort in an almost empty Gateway International Stadium to keep the scores at bay in the first half of the rescheduled contest.

The second half kicked off as fierce as the first with both teams jostling for control of the game as Remo created the first chance of the game with Awazie dribbling through the defence but the final ball was wasted by Mbaoma to the relief of the visiting team, then Mbaoma this time hit his shot on target but his effort was deflected for a corner that was wasted by Remo Stars who tried to maraud the defence of the Nigerian Federation Cup Champions in the final 10 minutes of the second stanza.

The NPFL Galacticos did prove their mettle and after withstanding the pressure from their hosts turned the game on its head by showing attacking bite, first was the poor ball by Huan John after a delightful piece of skill from Aggreh who waltz passed two defenders to create a good chance, then Obaje Godwin flouted a good opportunity to score after Alakwe hustled to get him through on goal.
The breakthrough came with 10 minutes remaining as the Hitman Godwin Obaje connected a series of passes with his partner in Alakwe before nodding the ball pass Goalkeeper Ndukwe to give the Anambra Warriors the initiative in what looked like Game over.
Then when it seemed like the Anambra Warriors would annex all the three points, the Sky Blue Stars stole one when Mbaoma stepped up to curl a well taken and accurate free kick beyond the impressive Bamba to tie the scores and Bamba was the hero as he decisively kept out Akeem Taiwo’s beautiful volley in virtually the last kick of the game as the Anambra Warriors shared the spoils with their hosts.
With the result FC IfeanyiUbah moves one place above to 6th position on the log and will next engage Enyimba International this Weekend.
