The 29-year-old has now lost eight consecutive games with Tianjin TEDA – a streak he was far from achieving during his time at Chelsea, John Obi Mikel is currently enjoying the worst spell of his entire career.

The Nigeria international was on parade in Tianjin TEDA’s 2-1 defeat to South Korean amateur side, Gyeongju Citizen.
And that was the eighth game in a row in which Mikel has found himself on the losing side – a feat which he was far from attaining during his spell at Chelsea, or his time at Lyn Oslo.

Since joining the Chinese Super League side in January, the midfielder has struggled to hit the same heights he reached during his 10-and-a-half years with the Blues. Though, he was on target for the Jaime Pacheco’s Tigers in the 6-2 defeat to St. Pauli.

Mikel did have other options, with Marseille and Valencia also interested in pursuing a move for the captain of the Super Eagles, but the financial draw of the Chinese topflight ultimately won the day.

And his current eight-game defeat streak is actually his longest in his entire professional football career.
Tianjin TEDA begin their Chinese Super League campaign against Shandong Luneng at the Jinan Olympic Sports Center Stadium on March 4, 2017.
