Former Rangers defender Leon Balogun is reportedly close to securing a move to Cypriot side Aris Limassol following the expiration of his contract with the Scottish club.
Balogun, who was released at the end of the 2024/2025 season, is currently in advanced talks with the Cypriot First Division team, with sources indicating that the Nigerian international could finalize a deal in the coming days. The move will see him reunite with his former Rangers teammate, Connor Goldson, who recently signed with Aris Limassol.
At 36, Balogun brings a wealth of experience, having featured prominently for Rangers in their domestic and European campaigns. He made a return to Ibrox in July 2023 after a brief spell away, providing much-needed defensive cover during a period plagued by injuries.
Balogun, known for his leadership and calm presence at the back, has also earned over 40 caps for the Super Eagles and was a part of the squad that finished as runners-up in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
The deal, once completed, will mark another chapter in Balogun’s career, which has seen him play across Germany, England, and Scotland. Aris Limassol, who finished third in the 2024/2025 Cypriot season, are looking to reinforce their squad ahead of next season’s European qualifiers, and the addition of Balogun is seen as a strategic step to solidify their defence.
While official confirmation is yet to be made, both parties are optimistic the deal will be wrapped up soon.
