Highly rated Nigerian winger Angelo Agbejoye has completed a move to Swedish Allsvenskan side Djurgårdens IF, signing a five-year contract from Nigerian club Grassrunners FC.
The deal represents another major breakthrough for one of Nigeria’s most exciting young prospects, with the 18-year-old now set to continue his development in European football.
Born on July 9, 2007, Agbejoye is regarded as one of the brightest attacking talents to emerge from Nigeria in recent years. The left-footed winger typically operates on the right flank, where his pace, dribbling ability, creativity, and eye for goal have made him a standout performer at the youth level.
Djurgården Win Race for Nigerian Prospect
Agbejoye’s arrival follows interest from several European clubs that had monitored his progress over the past few years.
Reports previously linked the teenager with moves to Swedish rivals AIK, Austrian side Rapid Wien, German club Hannover 96, and even Premier League champions Manchester City.

However, Djurgården ultimately won the race for his signature, convincing the youngster that Stockholm was the ideal destination for the next stage of his career.
The club’s scouting department had been tracking Agbejoye for an extended period before deciding to accelerate negotiations.
“We have had good knowledge of Angelo for a while now, and the interest from our side has become more intense recently. We see great potential in him,” a club representative said following the announcement.
Player Excited for New Challenge
Speaking after completing the move, Agbejoye highlighted the qualities he believes he can bring to his new team.
“My main strengths are speed, attack, finesse, scoring goals and delivering decisive passes, creating chances and, in short, winning,” the young Nigerian said.
His confidence reflects the growing reputation he earned during his time with Grassrunners FC, where he developed into one of the country’s most sought-after youth prospects.
Pathway to First-Team Football

Djurgården have built a reputation for developing young players and providing a platform for emerging talents to showcase themselves in European football.
The five-year contract, which runs until 2031, gives the Swedish club ample time to nurture Agbejoye’s development and gradually integrate him into senior football.
While he is expected to begin by adapting to life in Sweden and competing within the club’s development structure, the long-term objective is clear: earning a place in the first team and making an impact in the Allsvenskan.
Another Nigerian Talent Heading to Scandinavia
Agbejoye’s transfer continues a growing trend of Nigerian prospects using Scandinavian leagues as a stepping stone to bigger opportunities across Europe.
The pathway has proven successful for numerous African players in recent years, with Sweden, Denmark, and Norway providing competitive environments for young talents to gain valuable experience.
For Grassrunners FC, the move serves as further recognition of their youth development programme, while Nigerian football fans will be watching closely to see how quickly the exciting winger adapts to European football.
At just 18 years old, Agbejoye has taken an important first step. The challenge now is turning his immense potential into performances on one of Scandinavia’s biggest stages.
