4 Min Read

Chelsea defender Tosin Adarabioyo appears set to become one of the key figures in Xabi Alonso’s new-look squad, while the futures of fellow Nigerian-linked players Tyrique George and Emmanuel Emegha remain uncertain ahead of a pivotal summer at Stamford Bridge.

With Alonso officially taking charge on July 1 following the signing of a four-year contract, preparations are already underway for what is expected to be a significant rebuild at Chelsea.

As the Spaniard assesses his squad, Tosin has emerged as one of the players expected to play a central role in the club’s next chapter.

The former Fulham defender is reportedly viewed as an important leader within the dressing room, with Alonso keen to build a stronger team culture around influential figures.

Alongside captain Reece James, Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez, Tosin is believed to be among the players trusted to help drive the manager’s vision on and off the pitch.

His calm presence, Premier League experience and leadership qualities have made him a valuable asset despite Chelsea’s plans to strengthen their defence during the transfer window.

Rather than being considered expendable, the 27-year-old is expected to remain an important part of the squad as Alonso begins implementing his ideas.

The development could also be encouraging news for Nigeria, with Tosin still expected to commit his international future to the Super Eagles after years of speculation surrounding his national team allegiance.

While Tosin’s standing at the club appears secure, the picture is far less certain for academy graduate Tyrique George.

The young winger spent last season on loan at Everton but struggled for regular opportunities, making only one start during his spell. Chelsea are reportedly open to a permanent transfer, a move that would also help the club’s financial position due to George’s homegrown status.

Everton are understood to possess an option to sign the 20-year-old permanently, although it remains unclear whether they will activate the clause. With Chelsea continuing to reshape their attacking department, George may need to seek opportunities elsewhere to secure consistent first-team football.

Another player facing an important summer is Emmanuel Emegha, who is finally set to arrive at Stamford Bridge after completing his development spell with Strasbourg.

The towering Dutch striker joined Chelsea on a long-term seven-year deal but remained in France for an additional season. Now preparing for his first pre-season under Chelsea colours, Emegha will have the chance to impress Alonso and stake his claim for a place in the squad.

However, competition for attacking places remains fierce. Nicolas Jackson is expected to be handed the first opportunity to lead the line, while Alonso is reportedly keen to evaluate all of his options before making a final decision on Emegha’s immediate future. A place in the first team remains possible, although another loan move cannot be ruled out.

The trio share strong Nigerian connections. Tosin was born to Nigerian parents, George qualifies through his Nigerian father, while Emegha’s mother hails from Delta State. Although Emegha has already represented the Netherlands at senior level, both Tosin and George remain eligible for the Super Eagles.
