FIFA BOMBSHELL HITS AFCON BUILD UP: Super Eagles vs. Pharaohs Friendly Pushed Back!

A last-minute FIFA directive allowing European clubs to keep African stars until December 15 has forced the high-stakes friendly clash between the Super Eagles of Nigeria and the Egyptian Pharaohs to be postponed.

Initially slated for December 14, the highly anticipated pre-AFCON 2025 warm-up—a crucial final test for both sides—will now take place on December 16.

The Egyptian Football Association confirmed the delay, citing the new FIFA circular that heavily impacts the availability of key European-based internationals for both African powerhouses.

“The match has been moved to December 16 due to FIFA’s latest directive on the release of players,” explained EFA Vice President Khaled El-Darandaly.

The change has created significant logistical hurdles, particularly for Nigeria, who were forced to scrap their planned December 10 training camp in Cairo. Furthermore, the originally intended Cairo venue is no longer certain, with federations now reportedly considering a shift to Morocco, the host nation for AFCON 2025, which begins five days later on December 21.

Seven-time champions Egypt, already in camp, will use the rearranged fixture as a vital tune-up before they face South Africa, Angola, and Zimbabwe in Group B.
