Super Falcons forward Uchenna Kanu has made it clear she still has unfinished business with the national team, insisting she remains hungry, motivated, and determined to push Nigeria toward even greater success.
Speaking in an exclusive chat with Brila.net, the 28-year-old striker addressed recent rumors surrounding her fitness while reaffirming her commitment to both personal improvement and the team’s ambitions.
Kanu, who has already netted 20 goals for Nigeria, said she is nowhere near her peak.
“At this point in my career, scoring 20 goals, I still have more to give. If I’m given the chance, my goal is to stay fit and stay healthy,” she said.
“I want to win more with the team. I want to score more goals.”
The forward dismissed claims suggesting she was unfit during the last WAFCON camp, stressing that she prefers to focus on what she can control.
“There’s a rumour that I wasn’t fit or healthy to travel. I guess I can’t control that. I can only control what I can control.”
Kanu added that her priority now is returning to the squad as the Super Falcons continue their chase for an unprecedented 11th WAFCON trophy.
“My goal is to be back with the team, to get back with my girls because I miss them a lot. I’m looking forward to the 11th.”
“Stay True to Your Dreams” — Kanu Inspires the Next Generation
During a recent book launch, Kanu delivered a powerful message to young girls pursuing sports in environments where opportunities are limited or discouraged.
“It’s important that they understand how passionate they are about the sport, especially the girl child,” she said.
“If you’re in an environment where you’re not accepted or not given the chance to thrive, stay true to yourself and stay true to your dreams.”
She acknowledged that many girls face unique challenges simply because society has not fully embraced female participation in sports.
A Message to Nigerian Parents: “Stop Holding Your Kids Back”
Kanu also issued a direct challenge to parents who prevent their children, particularly girls, from engaging in sports.
Calling it a harmful limitation, she urged families to recognize the deeper value of sports beyond athletic achievements.
“It’s not just about kicking a football or volleyball. Sports build character, build resilience, teach teamwork, and help kids engage with life,” she explained.
She also debunked the belief that sports are a distraction from academics.
“We promote education as well. Every parent in that circle needs to allow their kids access to sports.”
With her determination, leadership, and clear vision for the next generation, Uchenna Kanu isn’t just scoring goals; she’s shaping the future of women’s sports in Nigeria.
