Samson Adamu has been officially confirmed as the permanent General Secretary of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), securing a historic breakthrough for Nigerian sports administration.
Having stepped in as acting head of the continental governing body in March 2026, Adamu now takes full administrative charge following a transition period. His predecessor, Véron Mosengo-Omba, vacated the post after a five-year tenure to focus on personal endeavors, with CAF President Patrice Motsepe publicly acknowledging his service to the African game.
Adamu’s ascent to the top administrative role comes after years of executive leadership within CAF, most notably as Director of Tournaments and Events. In that role, he led operational strategy and execution across all major CAF tournaments, building strong ties with national federations across the continent.
Before his executive stint at CAF, Adamu played a pivotal role in elevating beach soccer in West Africa through the creation and management of the popular COPA Lagos tournament.
Now confirmed in the substantive role, Adamu assumes full authority over CAF’s daily operational machinery at a critical juncture, as the governing body continues to modernize its competition formats and expand commercial growth across Africa.
