Galatasaray striker Victor Osimhen was involved in a heated confrontation with Villarreal defender Santiago Mouriño during a fiery pre-season friendly at RAMS Park on Saturday.
The incident occurred around the 38th minute after a physical challenge inside the penalty area following a Galatasaray attack.
Osimhen appeared furious after believing he had been held by the Uruguayan defender. The Nigerian striker quickly removed his protective face mask before confronting Mouriño and pushing the defender during the heated exchange.
Several Galatasaray players, including Barış Alper Yılmaz, immediately intervened to separate the two players and prevent the confrontation from escalating further.
Referee Kadir Sağlam eventually booked both Osimhen and Mouriño for their involvement in the incident.
Osimhen was visibly unhappy with the challenge and was heard protesting that he had been held, with reports indicating that the Nigerian was heard saying words to the effect of, “Because they hold me.”
Despite the altercation, Osimhen remained involved in the match and later made his mark on the scoresheet.
The Super Eagles striker found the back of the net to bring Galatasaray level after Villarreal had taken the lead through a Pérez penalty.
However, Villarreal ultimately claimed a 2-1 victory, with Georges Mikautadze scoring the decisive goal to hand the Spanish side the pre-season win.
The confrontation quickly attracted significant attention online, with footage of Osimhen’s exchange with Mouriño circulating widely across social media.
The incident highlighted once again the Nigerian forward’s intense and highly competitive approach to the game, even during a pre-season fixture where the primary objective is normally fitness and tactical preparation.
Osimhen has established himself as one of Galatasaray’s most important players since joining the Turkish giants and is expected to lead the club’s attack again during the new campaign.
Mouriño, meanwhile, formed part of Villarreal’s defensive setup during the encounter as the Spanish club continued its preparations for the upcoming season.
With both players receiving only yellow cards, there has been no indication of any further disciplinary action arising from the incident.
