Alex Iwobi has handed both Fulham F.C. and the Nigeria national football team a major lift after recovering from injury and returning to full training ahead of a decisive run of matches.
Fulham manager Marco Silva confirmed the Nigerian midfielder is now back in contention for Sunday’s Premier League clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C. after successfully overcoming the hamstring problem that sidelined him in recent weeks.
Iwobi suffered the injury during the first half of Fulham’s goalless draw against Brentford F.C. at the Gtech Community Stadium, forcing him to miss key league encounters against Aston Villa F.C., Arsenal F.C. and AFC Bournemouth.
Speaking ahead of the Wolves showdown, Silva expressed delight over the midfielder’s swift recovery and underlined just how important the former Arsenal man remains to his side.
“Alex is back in contention for the game,” Silva revealed during his pre-match press conference. “Last week, he had some training sessions with us.
This week, throughout the week, he’s been working with us. It’s been a good week for him.”
The Fulham boss also praised Iwobi’s intelligence, adaptability and influence across multiple positions, describing him as one of the team’s standout performers this season.
“He’s a big player for us, definitely,” Silva said. “He’s a player who’s very versatile, who can play in many different positions. He’s also a player that can add extra quality in the decision making.
“In all aspects of the game he’s a key player for us and he’s shown it again this season. It’s a boost. Definitely, it’s a boost.”
Iwobi’s return is equally significant for Nigeria head coach Eric Chelle as the Super Eagles prepare for high-profile international friendlies against Portugal national football team and Poland national football team.
Since Chelle’s appointment, the dynamic midfielder has remained a central figure in Nigeria’s setup, bringing creativity, calmness in possession and tactical flexibility to the heart of midfield.
His return to fitness comes at a crucial moment for both club and country, with Fulham pushing to finish the season strongly while Nigeria aims to sharpen its squad against elite European opposition ahead of future competitive assignments.
For Fulham supporters and Super Eagles fans alike, Iwobi’s comeback could hardly have arrived at a better time.
