Super Eagles goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali has described his departure from Chippa United as emotional but necessary, insisting the decision was reached through mutual understanding rather than conflict.
After four seasons with the South African Premier Soccer League (PSL) side, the 29-year-old confirmed that both parties agreed it was time to move forward, firmly shutting down speculation that he was forced out.
“In football you need to prove and you need to make a step forward and from the club it’s a very good understanding from both parties,” Nwabali said.
“It’s something that both parties feel like it’s best for the two.”
“Like Leaving Home”
Nwabali acknowledged the emotional weight of leaving a club where he built strong relationships over four years.

“Parting ways from the club after four years is not a really nice feeling because it’s like a home where you’ve been with these guys, with several different coaches, with the same chairman, players and everything.”
He highlighted his close relationship with the club’s chairman, describing it as fatherly.
“The chairman has been like a father to me but ever since I arrived in this club we have been talking like a father and son.”
Despite the attachment, he emphasized that professional growth sometimes requires difficult decisions.
“In football you really need to make one step forward.”
No Hard Feelings
Addressing reports of friction behind the scenes, Nwabali categorically denied any fallout.

“It’s a very understanding request from both parties.”
“It’s something that is going to be nice for the both parties… no strong hard feelings for something.”
“It’s an agreement that both parties will feel like, oh, we wish each other well and look forward for my career.”
He reiterated his appreciation for the environment at Chippa United, noting it was “really nice working here,” but stressed that progression is part of the professional cycle for players and managers alike.
Future Wide Open
Nwabali confirmed there is no contractual clause preventing him from signing for another PSL club.
“Talking about clause, there is no clause.”
However, he disclosed that there are currently no concrete offers on the table. Still, he remains open to opportunities both locally and internationally.
“I can literally play anywhere… I’m open to any club.”
“Being local, being international, I’m open to anyone.”
After strengthening his reputation at club level and elevating his profile with standout performances for Nigeria’s Super Eagles, Nwabali now enters the next chapter of his career as a free agent, determined to secure a platform that matches his ambitions.
