Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has suggested that Victor Osimhen could face disciplinary measures following an on-field altercation with teammate Ademola Lookman during Nigeria’s 4–0 victory over Mozambique at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
The incident occurred in the second half of Monday night’s Round of 16 encounter, with Nigeria already holding a commanding three-goal lead.
Television footage showed Osimhen and Lookman exchanging heated words, drawing attention on the touchline.
Moments later, Osimhen requested to be substituted and was replaced by Paul Onuachu.
At full time, the Galatasaray striker headed straight down the tunnel, opting not to join his teammates in celebrating the emphatic win.
Addressing the situation at his post-match press conference, Chelle declined to provide details but made it clear the matter would be handled internally.
“What happened on the pitch will stay in the group,” Chelle said.
“I don’t need to tell you what will happen. I keep that to me.”
Nigeria’s victory over Mozambique sealed their place in the quarter-finals, but the spotlight now shifts to how the Super Eagles coaching staff will manage the fallout from the high-profile disagreement between two of the team’s key attacking players.
