Super Eagles winger Chidera Ejuke has expressed immense pride and excitement after being named in Nigeria’s squad for the Africa Cup of Nations, describing the call-up as both a huge honour and a responsibility he does not take lightly.
Speaking with clear determination, Ejuke revealed that representing Nigeria remains one of the biggest driving forces of his career, stressing that the opportunity to wear the green and white continues to fuel his ambition.
The winger also highlighted the strong atmosphere within the Super Eagles camp, pointing to unity, focus and a shared desire to make the nation proud.
“I am happy to be here and excited to represent Nigeria,” Ejuke said.
“Being with the guys, building that connection, and wearing the green and white means a lot to me.”
“Unity, hunger and belief drive this team”
Ejuke made it clear that the squad is fully focused on the task ahead, with all attention firmly fixed on delivering at AFCON.
“Right now, everyone is focused on the AFCON. That is why we are all gathered here,” he added.
“There is excitement, hunger, and belief. We are all looking forward to the competition and we just want to give our best and make the country proud.”
Team first, always
The 26-year-old was also quick to downplay individual ambitions, insisting that personal milestones are secondary to collective success.
“I’m not chasing personal goals,” Ejuke stated.
“I just want to play and help the team in the best possible way I can whether it’s scoring goals, providing assists, tracking back to defend, or supporting my teammates in any way.
“What matters most is helping the team succeed.”
Second AFCON, bigger responsibility
AFCON 2025 marks Ejuke’s second appearance at the tournament, having featured twice at the 2021 edition. Now older and more experienced, the winger will be eager to play a more decisive role as Nigeria push for continental glory.
For Ejuke, this AFCON represents more than just another competition. It is an opportunity to grow, give back, and etch his name into Nigeria’s football history by helping the Super Eagles chase a fourth AFCON title.
