Super Eagles striker Terem Moffi is reportedly on the brink of a national team reunion following a brutal assault by his own club’s supporters, an incident that has accelerated his desire for an immediate exit from OGC Nice.
The turmoil surrounding Terem Moffi reached a dramatic peak when he and teammate Jérémie Boga were violently attacked by disgruntled OGC Nice fans during the club’s six-game winless streak. The shocking incident, where the duo were reportedly beaten and spat on at the training ground, necessitated hospital treatment and subsequent recovery time off the pitch.
Though Nice issued an official condemnation of the violence, the damage appears irreversible. Reports indicate the Nigerian international is now actively exploring “escape routes” from the club, sparking significant interest from rival Ligue 1 sides.
Ligue 1 rivals Paris FC, home to Super Eagles star Moses Simon, and Nantes, where Chidozie Awaziem plays, have emerged as prime candidates for a move. Both clubs are reportedly keen to reinforce their squads in their battle for top-flight security.
Transfer Tensions and AFCON Focus
While a permanent transfer is complicated by Moffi’s estimated €15 million valuation, a loan deal is viewed as a highly realistic option, especially if the forward continues to feel unsafe or unwelcome in Nice.
Despite a recent dip in form following his return from an ACL injury, Moffi’s five-season experience in the French top flight maintains his high regard in Ligue 1 circles.
Any domestic move that sees Moffi link up with a Super Eagles colleague—be it Simon or Awaziem—is expected to be finalized after the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). Moffi has been named to the preliminary 54-man squad for the tournament and remains a key part of Eric Chelle’s plans, suggesting his national future is despite his club trauma.
