CAF President Dr. Patrice Motsepe has confidently declared that the upcoming 2024 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco will stand among the finest football competitions globally.
Speaking ahead of the much-anticipated tournament, Motsepe expressed optimism that the Morocco edition would surpass previous AFCONs in quality, entertainment, and global reach.
“The AFCON in Morocco, starting in December and continuing into January, is going to be the most exciting, the best football that we’ve seen in African football, as good as the best in the world,” Motsepe stated.
He highlighted the growing international appeal of African football, citing the 2023 AFCON in Côte d’Ivoire, which drew a staggering 1.5 billion viewers across 180 countries.
“We expect that this edition will be a celebration of the highest quality football not just in Africa, but worldwide,” he added.
Motsepe also emphasized the cultural importance of the event, describing it as a global celebration of African unity and pride.
“It’s also a celebration of the diaspora. Millions of Africans across Europe, America, South America, and around the world who love football will watch and see that African football is as good as the best in the world.”
Hosting the AFCON for the first time since 1988, Morocco is set to showcase its world-class stadiums and infrastructure, positioning the country to deliver an unforgettable tournament.
