Ademola Lookman returned to the scoresheet in style on Wednesday night, delivering a decisive performance as Atalanta powered to a commanding 3–0 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in their UEFA Champions League clash at Deutsche Bank Park.
The Nigerian forward, who had gone seven matches without a goal, was at the centre of everything as Raffaele Palladino’s side produced one of their most complete European displays of the season.
Frankfurt Starts Brightly, Atalanta Take Control
Eintracht Frankfurt opened with purpose, pressing high and forcing Atalanta onto the back foot in the early moments. But once the visitors settled, their confidence grew and the chances began to flow.
Lookman came close to opening the scoring in the 35th minute when his curling left-footed effort beat the goalkeeper but struck the base of the post. Minutes later, Gianluca Scamacca smashed the woodwork during a scramble inside the area as Atalanta pushed for the breakthrough.
Six Minutes of Brutality: Atalanta Tear Frankfurt Apart
After a cagey first half, the second period was dominated entirely by the Italian visitors, who produced a ruthless attacking spell that shattered Frankfurt’s resistance.
Lookman broke the deadlock in the 60th minute, guiding a precise first-time finish into the net after Charles De Ketelaere’s well-placed low cross. The goal ended a four-week scoring drought and ignited Atalanta’s attacking surge.
Barely 60 seconds later, Lookman turned creator. The Nigerian danced into the box before cutting the ball back for Éderson, who calmly slotted it home to make it 2–0 as Frankfurt’s defence fell apart.
The punishment continued in the 66th minute. Scamacca’s header rattled the crossbar, and De Ketelaere reacted quickest to convert the rebound, completing a devastating six-minute spell that silenced the German crowd and secured Atalanta’s second straight European away win.
Atalanta Strengthen Champions League Position
The victory lifts Atalanta to 10 points from five matches, keeping them firmly on track for a top-eight finish and automatic qualification for the Champions League round of 16.
With European business handled for now, Palladino’s men shift their focus back to Serie A, where they host Fiorentina at the New Balance Arena on Sunday.
Lookman, revitalised and back amongst the goals, will head into that fixture brimming with confidence after delivering one of his best performances of the season.
