Werder Bremen sporting director Clemens Fritz has shed light on Victor Boniface’s fitness struggles, identifying them as a major reason behind the Nigerian striker’s quiet start at the club.
Speaking to BILD, Fritz commended Boniface’s hard work but admitted that the 24-year-old needs time to regain full sharpness and adapt to Bremen’s system.
“We’ve clearly identified the topics together with Victor and accompany him from all sides. He works on the lawn without a doubt. There, Boniface shows more discipline than at the dining table,” Fritz said.
He further explained that the club is supporting Boniface through a structured plan:
“He accepts our support and wants to work on himself with extra training, physiotherapy, and a modified nutrition plan. We’re working closely with him.”
Boniface, who joined Werder Bremen on the final day of the summer transfer window, is yet to start a game for the Bundesliga side. He has made five substitute appearances, with his longest being a 30-minute cameo in a 3–0 defeat to Freiburg.
So far, the forward has managed one assist but is still searching for his first goal for Bremen.
With stiff competition in attack and the demands of top-flight football, Boniface will need to improve his sharpness to earn more minutes.
Still, Fritz remains optimistic, emphasizing that Boniface’s attitude and discipline give the club confidence he will soon rediscover his best form.
Werder Bremen continues to back the Nigerian forward, with a comprehensive support system in place to help him thrive again.
