The Director General of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Hon. Bukola Olopade, has lauded Lagos State for establishing itself as a premier sports hub, elevating Nigeria’s profile on the international sporting map.
Olopade’s commendation followed Lagos’ successful hosting of the E1 Electric Boat Racing Championship over the weekend — a groundbreaking event in Africa. With this milestone, Lagos joins the ranks of renowned global cities such as Monaco, London, Jeddah, and Venice as hosts of the prestigious E1 Boat Championship.
This achievement adds to a growing list of high-profile sporting events staged in Lagos this year, including the Access Bank Lagos International Marathon, the Lagos International Badminton Classic, and the “Chaos in the Ring” boxing event.
“Lagos State is truly setting the pace and living up to its status as Nigeria’s foremost commercial city in sports development,” Olopade remarked. “Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu deserves commendation for his visionary and dynamic leadership, which places sports at the center of the state’s socio-economic growth.”
He further emphasized the NSC’s commitment to supporting all states in Nigeria to advance sports development nationwide.
Aligned with the vision of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Olopade reiterated the Commission’s mandate to build a sustainable sports economy, noting that attracting international events is a key component — a role Lagos State has actively embraced.
The statement was issued by Kola Daniel, Special Assistant on Media to the NSC Director General, on October 6, 2025.
