Bendel Insurance Football Club of Benin has appointed Coach Baldwin Bazuaye, MON, as the interim Technical Manager, following the suspension of Head Coach Greg Ikhenoba. Bazuaye began his tenure on Tuesday, overseeing the team’s morning training session.
A former international and Executive Director of the Edo State Sports Commission, Bazuaye was tasked with taking over the club’s technical duties after Coach Ikhenoba’s suspension, a decision made by the Chairman of the Edo State Sports Commission, Hon. Amadin Desmond Enabulele. This move followed the club’s disappointing 1-0 defeat to Nasarawa United in their most recent Nigeria Premier Football League match.
In his address to the players and staff, Bazuaye emphasized the urgency of turning around the team’s fortunes. He urged the squad to wake up from their slumber and meet their responsibilities, with a focus on delivering victories and entertaining their supporters.
“I am here temporarily to manage the situation until the issues surrounding the suspension of your head coach are resolved,” Bazuaye said. “I need the cooperation of everyone. We must start getting results and work our way out of this situation. Discipline and accountability are key. Players must prove that they deserve to be here, and we all must understand our roles.”
Bazuaye also made it clear that success will only come through cooperation, discipline, and consistent performance. He reiterated that no investor or employer would be pleased with poor results despite heavy investment.
The decision to suspend Coach Greg Ikhenoba was made on Monday evening by Hon. Enabulele, following a series of poor performances, and Bazuaye’s appointment is set to provide the club with leadership until further notice.
