Two-time FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup silver medallists, the Falconets of Nigeria, have begun preparations in Ibadan for their crucial second leg fixture against Rwanda’s She-Amavubi, in the second round of the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup African qualifying series.
The delegation of players and officials arrived in the Oyo State capital on Monday afternoon and was warmly received by the Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Wasilat Adegoke. She assured the team of the state government’s unwavering support and offered prayers for their success in Saturday’s decisive encounter.
Team captain Joy Igbokwe, speaking on behalf of the squad, expressed gratitude to the Oyo State Government and pledged that the team is fully prepared to deliver a strong performance and make the nation proud.
Meanwhile, the Confederation of African Football has appointed Gambian referee Ngum Fatou to officiate the encounter. She will be assisted by compatriots Jainaba Manneh (assistant referee 1), Abbie Ceesay (assistant referee 2), and Isatou Touray (fourth official). Jodie Marian Reid Seton from Liberia will serve as match commissioner, while Egypt’s Hayam Mohammed Baraka will take on the role of referee assessor.
