2026 U20WWC Qualifier: Nigeria defeats Rwanda, takes early advantage in the second round tie

The Falconets of Nigeria have defeated the Amavubi of Rwanda by a 1-0 scoreline on Sunday afternoon in the first leg of the second round of qualifying matches for the 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup.

The match, which took place in Kigali, saw the Falconets battle it out with the Amavubi to earn an all-important win. The goal that secured the win came from a header by Alaba Olabiyi in the 70th minute.

The final clash of the round, which will determine which side progresses to the next round, will come up on September 27, 2025, at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan, Nigeria. The Falconets will be going into the clash with an advantage on aggregate and the hope to finish the job at their home ground and progress to the next round of qualifying matches.
