Edo State has emerged as the overall winner of the inaugural South-South Senior Badminton Tournament, held in Asaba, Delta State. The event, tagged Asaba 2025, saw Team Edo dominate the competition, securing three gold medals and one bronze to claim the top spot.
Host state, Team Delta, finished in second place with one gold, four silver, and six bronze medals. Cross River State rounded out the top three, earning one gold and one bronze medal, while Team Rivers secured fourth position with one silver and two bronze medals.
Despite strong competition, teams from Bayelsa, Abia, Akwa Ibom, and NNPC Badminton Club were unable to secure any medals at the event, which took place at the Indoor Hall Sports Complex.
Engr. Felix Tangbe, Chairman of the Delta State Badminton Association, expressed his gratitude to the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, as well as to other key stakeholders such as Hon. Onos Oborevwori, Chairman of the Delta State Sports Commission, Hon. Mercy Awhana, Acting General Manager of Delta Queens, and the Acting Director-General, for their vital support in making the tournament a success. He also praised the participating teams for their professionalism, sportsmanship, and cooperation throughout the competition.
Looking ahead, Engr. Tangbe expressed confidence that the next edition of the South-South Senior Badminton Tournament will be even more successful, promising continued growth and development for the sport in the region.
The success of Asaba 2025 has laid a strong foundation for future tournaments, and badminton enthusiasts are already eagerly anticipating the next challenge.
