General Manager of Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan, Dimeji Lawal, has voiced strong confidence in the leadership and vision of newly appointed Executive Chairman, Honourable Taiwo Lekan Salami, describing his arrival as the beginning of a new era for the historic club.

Making his first public statement since Governor Seyi Makinde appointed Honourable Salami to the role, Lawal, popularly known as Kabongo, praised the decision, citing the chairman’s deep-rooted passion for football, solid background, and capacity to lead.

“Based on my interactions with Honourable Taiwo Lekan Salami, I can confidently say the governor has put the right peg in a round hole,” Lawal said in a chat with 3SC Media.

The former Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles winger commended the outgoing chairman, Hon. Babatunde Olaniyan Akoro, for his contributions to the club’s growth but emphasized that Salami’s appointment signals a bold new direction.

“Akoro made impactful changes, but we all know growth takes time. With Salami, I see someone determined to break new ground and take Shooting Stars to where it truly belongs—not just in Nigeria, but internationally,” Lawal stated.

Highlighting Salami’s pedigree, Lawal noted that the new chairman hails from a football-loving family with strong credentials in business, politics, and sports administration.

“The name Lekan Salami carries weight. He understands what a modern, professionally run football club should look like, and already, he’s hit the ground running.”

Lawal believes Salami’s leadership can unlock new opportunities, attract investments, and restore the club’s fading glory.

“He has the influence and capacity to open doors in every sector that matters to the growth of this club. With his willpower and clear intent, no challenge is too big,” he added.

While optimistic about the future, the former Super Eagles star called on fans, supporters, and all stakeholders to rally behind the new chairman’s vision.

“With unified support, I see Shooting Stars returning to the top of Nigerian football and competing strongly on the African stage,” Lawal concluded.
