The 2024/2025 NWFL Premiership Super Six did more than crown a champion — it showcased a league in full bloom. With four title contenders entering the final day, Nigeria’s top-flight women’s football has never looked more competitive.
Bayelsa Queens ultimately claimed glory with a 4-1 demolition of Naija Ratels, sealing their sixth title in style. But beyond the goals and glamour, this Super Six marked a turning point for the NWFL’s reputation and reach.
Held at the world-class Remo Stars Stadium in Ogun State, the tournament drew praise for its organisation and intensity. NWFL Chairperson Nkechi Obi called it the fiercest competition yet, and host Hon. Kunle Soname described it as a milestone in the growth of women’s football in Nigeria.
From star performers like Vera Samuel and Bolaji Olamide to the emergence of Remo Stars Ladies as a competitive force, the Super Six reflected both talent and tenacity.
The cash rewards, high-level officiating, and media attention further underscored a league on the rise.
Bayelsa Queens will now represent Nigeria at the CAF Women’s Champions League Zonal Qualifiers in Côte d’Ivoire, with aspirations to qualify for the inaugural FIFA Women’s Club Championship.
The NWFL’s upward trajectory suggests Nigeria is ready to take its place on the global stage of women’s club football.
Individual honours from the tournament included Jenat Akekeromowei of Nasarawa Amazons, who was named Most Valuable Player after netting 13 goals this season, including four in the Super Six. Remo Stars Ladies’ Bolaji Olamide finished as Top Scorer with 15 goals in 19 matches, while her teammate Charlotte Adjei was named Best Goalkeeper of the Season. Adjei’s stellar performances were further rewarded with a ₦200,000 cash prize from the Judith Chime Foundation.
