Nigeria’s U-20 national team, the Flying Eagles, have secured qualification for the quarter-finals of the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations following a 2-2 draw against Kenya in their final Group B match on Wednesday.
The fixture, held at a neutral venue, saw Nigeria come from behind twice, with goals from striker Kparobo Arierhi and team captain Daniel Bameyi ensuring they picked up the crucial point needed to progress.
Kenya opened the scoring early in the game, but Arierhi restored parity before the break. The East Africans regained the lead in the second half, but Bameyi’s header in the final quarter of the game sealed the draw and Nigeria’s advancement to the knockout stage.
The result means the Flying Eagles finish second in Group B with five points, behind group leaders Morocco, who topped the standings with seven points following a 3-1 victory over Tunisia in the group’s other fixture.
Tunisia ended the group phase in third with three points and will now wait to see if they qualify as one of the best third-placed teams across the tournament’s groups.
The Flying Eagles will now shift focus to the quarter-finals, with their next opponent to be determined after the conclusion of the group stage matches.
