Governor Throws Fanfare For Bayelsa Queens After Winning NWFL Title

The atmosphere in Bayelsa State was set in a jocund mood as the Governor of the state, Senator Douye Diri hosted Bayelsa Queens for winning the Nigeria Women Football League trophy.

Senator Douye commended the Queens for surmounting hurdles to secure the the title, while acknowledging their boldness and persistence.

The victory marked their sixth title record after dispossessing Edo Queens in Ikenne, Ogun State who were out for title defence.

The deputy Governor, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo who represented his superior at the get-together organised by the State Government to honour the triumphant team, described Bayelsa Queens as worthy champions.

Senator Lawrence expressed how proud they are of the Queens as a state for the milestone and thanked them for their hard work, focus and determination .

“I particularly salute the resilience of our girls in maintaining an unbeaten run throughout the regular season, and the victory is a fitting reward for their effort, and we are indeed proud of them”, Governor Diri said.

Extending his appreciation, the Governor praised the Commissioner for Sports Daniel Igali, the Chairman and the board members, Coach Ogbonda Whyte and the technical crew, as well as the players, for impressive outing and spectacular performance.

The Governor charged the team not to be complacent with the victory but should rather strive to subjugate the zone and the continent at large in their next campaign.

The Bayelsa Queens have got another chance to represent Nigeria in the 2025 CAF Women Champions League after they first did in the 2022 edition in Morocco coming third having won the WAFU B zonal qualifiers in Cote d’Ivoire.
