Austrian Bundesliga side FK Austria Wien have officially announced the signing of Nigerian defender Ibrahim Buhari on a free transfer from Swedish club IF Elfsborg, with the 24-year-old committing his future to the club on a contract running until 2029.
The commanding centre-back arrives in Vienna after an impressive spell in the Swedish Allsvenskan, where he made 77 appearances for Elfsborg following his move from Plateau United in September 2022. His consistency and leadership at the back established him as one of the club’s most dependable defenders.
Standing at 1.90 metres, Buhari is renowned for his physical presence, aerial dominance, composure on the ball, and defensive intelligence. His arrival is expected to bolster Austria Wien’s backline as the club prepares for the 2026/27 Austrian Bundesliga campaign.
Before making the move to Europe, Buhari enjoyed a standout career in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) with Plateau United.
