Nigerian midfielder Tochukwu Nnadi marks his debut for Marseille in their dramatic 3-2 victory over Lyon in Ligue 1.
A late brace from Aubameyang sealed the win after Marseille fought back twice.
Tochukwu Nnadi, the Nigerian midfielder, made his long-awaited debut for Olympique de Marseille during their thrilling 3-2 victory over Lyon in a French Ligue 1 showdown on Sunday.
The 22-year-old, who joined the club on transfer deadline day from Belgian side Zulte Waregem, had not featured in Marseille’s previous four matches before the clash at Stade Vélodrome.
Nnadi was called upon in the dying moments of the match, coming on in the fourth minute of stoppage time to replace former Manchester United striker Mason Greenwood.
His introduction came at a crucial time as Marseille looked to protect their slim lead in a tense final phase of the game.
The match itself was an exhilarating affair.
Lyon struck first, taking the lead just three minutes into the game when Corentin Tolisso finished off a clever assist from Endrick.
However, Marseille responded with resilience, and Brazilian winger Igor Paixão leveled the score in the second half with a stunning curling shot.
Lyon regained the lead in the 76th minute thanks to a calm finish from substitute Rémi Himbert, but Marseille fought back once again.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was the hero for the home side, scoring two quick-fire goals to secure the win.
Aubameyang’s first came from a Paixão cross, while his second deep into injury time was a tap-in following a brilliant assist from Ethan Nwaneri.
Although Nnadi’s time on the field was brief, his debut marks an important step in his adaptation to Ligue 1 and Marseille’s midfield setup.
The victory capped off an emotional night for the home crowd, with Aubameyang’s brace ensuring the three points and a dramatic conclusion to an exciting match.
