Rivers United head coach Finidi George has struck an optimistic tone ahead of his side’s crucial CAF Champions League group-stage clash against Power Dynamos FC, describing the encounter as a chance to get their continental campaign back on track.
The Nigerian champions arrived in Ndola, Zambia, earlier this week, and Finidi believes careful preparation and the right mindset could make the difference against their Zambian opponents. While acknowledging the quality of opposition at this stage of the competition, the former Super Eagles coach remains hopeful that Rivers United can rise to the challenge.
“There are no easy games at this level,” Finidi said after the team’s arrival. “First, we will rest and then see how we can prepare properly for the game. Any team in the group stage of the CAF Champions League deserves to be there. They are good enough, so we expect an interesting game. We will see what happens on Saturday.”
Rivers United have endured a difficult start to their Champions League group campaign, losing their opening two matches and finding themselves under early pressure. They were heavily beaten 3–0 by defending champions Pyramids FC in their opener before falling to a narrow 2–1 defeat against Moroccan side RS Berkane in their second outing.
Those results have left Finidi’s men rooted near the bottom of the group standings, making Saturday’s fixture against Power Dynamos a must-win encounter. A positive result in Ndola would not only secure their first points of the group stage but also provide a much-needed boost to confidence and belief.
With expectations high and little margin for error, Rivers United are expected to approach the game with discipline, focus, and urgency. For Finidi and his players, the clash in Zambia represents more than just another group match; it is an opportunity to reset their campaign and keep their Champions League hopes alive.
