The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has confirmed that the Super Eagles’ four-nation invitational tournament will now be held in Antalya, Turkey, following a venue change from Amman, Jordan.
The decision was made by the Jordan Football Association (JFA), which cited ongoing regional tensions and restricted movement as key reasons for prioritizing player safety.
Despite the relocation, the tournament format and match dates remain unchanged.
Confirmed Fixtures Remain Intact
The four-team tournament will still feature the Nigeria national football team, the Iran national football team, the Jordan national football team, and the Costa Rica national football team.
Nigeria’s fixtures are scheduled as follows:
- March 27, 2026: Nigeria vs Iran
- March 31, 2026: Nigeria vs Jordan
The parallel fixtures will see Jordan face Costa Rica, while Iran also takes on the Central American side.
NFF Backs Decision, Eyes Preparation Opportunity
The NFF has expressed full support for the venue switch, describing Antalya as a safe and practical alternative for all participating teams.
With modern training facilities and a reputation for hosting international friendlies, Antalya offers a stable environment for the Super Eagles to regroup and compete during the March international window.
Focus on World Cup Preparations
Head coach Eric Chelle is expected to announce his squad soon, with the tournament providing a key opportunity to evaluate players ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
Midfield leader Wilfred Ndidi is among the players expected to play a central role as Nigeria continues to build on its recent performances, including a bronze medal finish at the 2025 AFCON.
Balancing Competition and Safety
The swift relocation has been widely welcomed by fans and stakeholders, ensuring that competitive international fixtures can proceed without compromising player welfare.
For Nigeria, the tournament represents more than just friendlies; it is a critical step in refining tactics, strengthening squad cohesion, and maintaining momentum ahead of crucial qualifiers.
A Strategic Step Forward
As preparations intensify for 2026, this development highlights the NFF’s commitment to securing high-quality opposition while prioritizing safety.
With Antalya now set to host the tournament, attention will turn to squad selection and performance, as the Super Eagles aim to make the most of this important international window.
