Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has expressed confidence and satisfaction following Udinese’s hard-fought 1–0 victory over AS Roma on Monday night at the Bluenergy Stadium, insisting the team has proven it can compete with the top sides in Serie A.
Udinese secured the win thanks to a second-half strike from Jurgen Ekkelenkamp, but the result was largely preserved by an outstanding performance from Okoye, who delivered several crucial saves to deny Roma.
The Nigeria international was at his best between the posts, making three key stops to help the White and Blacks claim their fifth clean sheet of the season and seal a valuable three points.
Reacting after the match, Okoye praised the collective effort of the team and highlighted Udinese’s ambition to push for European qualification.
“I’m happy to have helped the team today. We put in a great team performance,” Okoye told Udinese’s official website.
“I’m happy for ourselves and for the fans. We’re working hard, all united, from the players to the staff. We can compete with anyone.”
Okoye has enjoyed a solid campaign with Udinese, registering four clean sheets in 15 Serie A appearances, and continues to play a key role in the club’s defensive stability.
The victory moves Udinese up to ninth place on the Serie A table with 32 points from 23 matches, keeping them firmly in the race for a potential UEFA Conference League spot.
