Former Watford F.C. captain Troy Deeney has ranked Nigerian forward Victor Osimhen among the top five strikers currently playing in world football, praising the Super Eagles star’s physicality, technical ability and goal-scoring instinct.

Osimhen recently delivered a decisive extra-time goal that secured Galatasaray S.K.’s qualification over Juventus F.C. in a dramatic UEFA Champions League playoff tie.

Despite a 3–2 defeat on the night, Galatasaray advanced 7–5 on aggregate, with Osimhen’s crucial strike proving the difference. His performance earned him a nomination for UEFA Champions League Player of the Week.

Deeney’s Verdict on Osimhen

Speaking on the CBS Sports Golazo show, Deeney described Osimhen as a forward any top league would gladly accommodate, highlighting his all-round attributes and competitive edge.

“Every league would want him; he’s physical, he’s strong and rough around the edges,” Deeney said.

While comparing him to other elite forwards, the former Premier League striker noted that Osimhen may not fit the traditional mould of a technically polished centre-forward.

“Don’t get me wrong, he doesn’t look the silkiest, he’s not the Harry Kane type of striker,” Deeney added, referencing Harry Kane.

However, Deeney insisted that beyond appearances, Osimhen possesses strong technical qualities and a complete attacking profile.

“When you watch him, technically, he’s very good. He’ll bash you about; he can link the play, run in behind, and he scores goals, which is the most important thing.”

Transfer Speculation and Market Value

Deeney also addressed ongoing speculation about Osimhen’s future, suggesting that financial factors have limited potential transfer moves away from S.S.C. Napoli.

“A lot of why he hasn’t moved on has been financial,” he explained.

“I think when you start to look at him, the value is always going to be high, and if you look at him, only one or two players in Europe are better than him in every department.”
