Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has played down concerns over Wilfred Ndidi’s absence, insisting Nigeria have the depth and quality to overcome hosts Morocco in their Africa Cup of Nations semifinal clash.
Ndidi has been one of Nigeria’s standout performers at the 2025 AFCON in Morocco, combining strong leadership with dominant midfield displays.
The Besiktas star has started all four of Nigeria’s matches so far, imposing himself as a key figure in the heart of the Super Eagles’ midfield.
However, the 29-year-old will miss Wednesday’s crucial semifinal after picking up his second yellow card of the knockout stage during Nigeria’s 2-0 quarterfinal victory over Algeria.
Ndidi was booked for failing to comply with the referee’s instructions on where to leave the pitch, a caution that now rules him out under CAF regulations.
Despite the setback, Chelle remains optimistic and believes Ndidi’s suspension presents an opportunity for other squad members to step up.
“I am disappointed for him because he brings so much to the team,” Chelle said. “But we are a group, and every player is waiting for a chance to show something. I’m very confident. I will choose his replacement, and everything will be fine.”
