Super Eagles winger Ademola Lookman has dismissed concerns over his brief on-field disagreement with Victor Osimhen during Nigeria’s emphatic 4–0 victory against Mozambique, insisting the incident was insignificant.
Nigeria delivered their most convincing performance of the tournament on Tuesday at the Complexe Sportif de Fes, cruising past the Mambas with goals from Victor Osimhen, Akor Adams and Ademola Lookman.
The win further underlined the Super Eagles’ status as one of the favourites in the competition.
Despite the dominant display, attention shifted in the second half to a visible altercation between Osimhen and Lookman.
The Napoli striker appeared frustrated, accusing Lookman of being selfish in possession, and was also seen directing angry remarks toward Bruno Onyemaechi.
Osimhen later requested to be substituted, a move that sparked debate among fans and pundits.
Speaking after the match, Lookman played down the incident, stressing that there were no lingering issues between himself and his teammate.
“I have not seen Osimhen but I don’t think that matters,” Lookman said.
“Vic is our number one guy, everybody knows this. He’s a top striker, so all of that doesn’t matter.”
Notably, Lookman has been instrumental in Osimhen’s success at the tournament, providing assists for all three of the striker’s goals so far.
However, concerns have been raised over Osimhen’s conduct during matches.
Since the start of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, the forward has shown visible frustration on several occasions when not receiving the ball, drawing criticism for his reactions on the pitch.
Tuesday’s incident once again placed the spotlight on Osimhen, overshadowing an otherwise excellent team performance.
Some observers believe head coach Eric Chelle may need to address the situation internally to prevent any potential impact on team unity.
With Nigeria continuing their strong run in the tournament, maintaining harmony within the squad will be crucial as they push for continental glory.
