Cameroon international and former Beşiktaş forward Vincent Aboubakar has sparked fresh controversy in the Turkish Super Lig after boldly declaring that Victor Osimhen is not the league’s best striker.
Speaking on Ertem Şener’s YouTube show, Aboubakar’s comments instantly ignited a fiery debate across Turkish football circles and sent social media into meltdown, with fans of Galatasaray, Beşiktaş, and Nigeria all weighing in.
“Abraham Is More Complete Than Osimhen” — Aboubakar
Despite Osimhen’s €75 million move to Galatasaray making him the most expensive signing in Turkish football history and his Golden Boot, Best Player, and Best Goal awards last season, Aboubakar insists Tammy Abraham is superior.
According to the striker:
“Because he knows football well. The team needs to use the player well. If he can’t score, you need to improve around him. Since Galatasaray works well, Osimhen scores goals. Put Abraham in Galatasaray. He’d score a lot. He’d play better than Osimhen.”
He didn’t stop there. Aboubakar further questioned Osimhen’s overall game:
“Mauro Icardi plays good football. Osimhen just has goals. If you take away the goals, what else can he do?”
Osimhen Under Pressure as Striker Battle Heats Up
Osimhen’s Super Lig form has been mixed three goals in ten matches, far from the dominant level expected after his record-breaking transfer. Yet his Champions League output remains elite, scoring six goals in just three appearances.
In the domestic scoring charts, Paul Onuachu leads with 11 goals, followed closely by Eldor Shomurodov with 10. Youssef En-Nesyri and Mauro Icardi have seven each, while Abraham sits on five from 14 games.
Despite the scrutiny, Osimhen remains one of Africa’s biggest football stars, finishing in the top three for the 2025 CAF African Footballer of the Year award.
Eyes on AFCON 2025
At Galatasaray and for Nigeria, Osimhen is still seen as a crucial figure. With AFCON 2025 approaching, Super Eagles fans will hope the striker’s form peaks at the right moment as Nigeria chases a fourth continental title.
