Nigerian football titan and Galatasaray’s Victor Osimhen has secured the coveted Sportsman of the Year title at the 2025 GQ Türkiye Men of the Year awards, sealing a landmark season of dominance in Turkish football.
The prestigious honor was bestowed upon the Super Eagles striker on Wednesday evening, recognizing his immediate and sensational impact at the Istanbul powerhouse.
Osimhen, who initially arrived at Galatasaray on a season-long loan for 2024–25, rapidly ascended to become the club’s most pivotal figure. His explosive debut campaign was a masterclass in goalscoring, yielding an incredible 37 goals and seven assists across all competitions. Crucially, his contributions were instrumental in driving the club to a historic domestic double, clinching both the Süper Lig and the Turkish Cup.
Following this display of overwhelming offensive power, Galatasaray wasted no time in making his transfer permanent in a landmark deal.
“I want to say a big thank you to GQ. I can’t forget my Galatasaray family. This means so much to me and my family,” Osimhen stated upon receiving the accolade. “I appreciate everyone who has supported me up to this hour. I will continue to do my best for my family, for Galatasaray, and for the fans all over the world.”
The 26-year-old now shifts his focus to national duty, preparing to spearhead Nigeria’s charge for the AFCON 2025 trophy in Morocco. With the retirement of veteran William Troost-Ekong, Osimhen is poised to become one of the first names on the team sheet and a vital figure in the Super Eagles’ leadership structure.
