Telecom SC achieved one of the most significant upsets in the Egypt Super Cup Round of 32 by pulling off a remarkable 2–1 comeback win against the Egyptian powerhouses Al Ahly, thanks to a tactically astute performance orchestrated by coach Aliyu Zubair.
Al Ahly initially took the lead in the 41st minute with a goal from Omar Kamal and seemed poised to assert their dominance. Nevertheless, Zubair’s team refused to be intimidated.
The current Flying Eagles coach restructured his squad at halftime, enhancing their defensive organization and implementing a more aggressive attacking strategy that disrupted the record champions.

His tactical adjustments proved to be highly effective as Mostafa Fawzy equalized in the 81st minute, pushing the match into extra time. With the game delicately balanced and tension escalating, Zubair’s tactical discipline shone through once more, enabling Telecom SC to maintain their compactness, counter effectively, and control critical phases of the match.
Fawzy completed his brace with a sensational winner in the 110th minute, securing a historic victory and propelling Telecom SC into the Round of 16.
This win not only shocked Al Ahly supporters but also underscored Coach Aliyu Zubair’s rising reputation for tactical insight, resilience, and adept management in high-stakes African football.
Telecom SC now advances confidently into the next stage of the tournament, energized by their success.
It is worth noting that the coach joined the Egyptian second division team in October and has since been making headlines with his tactical expertise.
