Promotion Specialist Aliyu Zubair Sets Sights on Egyptian Football with Telecom Egypt SC
The Nigerian coaching maestro Aliyu Zubair is taking his proven success formula to the Middle East, accepting a two-year deal as the new Head Coach for Egyptian second-division contenders Telecom Egypt SC.
The Head Coach of Nigeria’s Flying Eagles was formally unveiled at the club’s Cairo headquarters.
This appointment is a testament to Zubair’s solid credentials. Known as a promotion specialist, the Ilorin native has twice successfully elevated teams from the Nigerian second division to the top-flight: Gombe United in 2021 and, most recently, Elkanemi Warriors in 2024. He also led the Elkanemi Warriors to glory in the 2024 President Federation Cup, a trophy he had previously won as an assistant coach with Akwa United in 2017.
Zubair’s work at the national level is equally impressive. He led the Flying Eagles to a WAFU-B tournament win and secured a World Cup berth after a bronze finish at the U20 Nations Cup.
Now, he and his Assistant Coach, Lukman Ijaiya, face a fresh challenge. Telecom Egypt SC, one of the most ambitious clubs in the country, boasts state-of-the-art facilities and is determined to secure promotion. The club hopes Zubair’s work ethic and winning philosophy are the perfect combination to guide them to the top tier of Egyptian football.
