German Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt have reportedly kept Raphael Onyedika on their shortlist of potential midfield targets ahead of the winter and summer transfer windows.
According to transfer expert Florian Plettenberg, Frankfurt made a late push to sign the Nigerian midfielder on the final day of the summer window, but the deal ultimately fell through. Despite that, the Eagles remain interested in bringing him in as a potential replacement for Hugo Larsson, who has attracted serious attention from several top European clubs.
Onyedika Back from Injury
The Club Brugge star recently returned to action after recovering from an injury sustained in a Belgian Pro League fixture earlier in the season. His comeback has been a welcome boost for Brugge, as the 23-year-old has re-established himself as a key part of their midfield setup.
A Perfect Fit for Frankfurt’s System
Under manager Dino Toppmöller, Frankfurt typically deploy a 4-2-3-1 formation, a setup that would suit Onyedika’s skillset perfectly. Known for his defensive intelligence, ball recovery, and press resistance, the Nigerian thrives in a double pivot where he can dictate tempo from deep areas while shielding the defence.
Onyedika’s passing range and composure under pressure make him an ideal candidate for Frankfurt’s possession-based build-up style, while his ability to cover ground and break up play would add much-needed balance in midfield.
A Move to the Bundesliga: A Step Up
A potential switch to the Bundesliga would represent a significant career leap for Onyedika, exposing him to a higher level of competition and intensity. It would also serve as an excellent platform for him to further develop into a top-tier defensive midfielder and strengthen his case for a more consistent role in the Super Eagles setup.
With Frankfurt expected to revisit their midfield options in January, Raphael Onyedika’s name remains firmly on their radar, setting up a possible transfer tussle in the coming months.
