The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled the official 10-man shortlist for the 2025 Men’s Player of the Year award this past Wednesday.
The announcement sets the stage for a compelling competition, with Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen, Egypt’s Mohamed Salah, and Morocco’s Achraf Hakimi being the anticipated frontrunners.
Morocco and Senegal share the highest number of nominations with two representatives each. The remaining countries with a single nominee are Nigeria, Egypt, Guinea, Cameroon, DR Congo and Gabon.
The list ostensibly excludes several athletes previously considered strong contenders, such as Ghanaian stars Mohammed Kudus and Antoine Semenyo and the Cameroonian forward Bryan Mbeumo.
