Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Sports, Kabiru Amadu, has demanded that the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) provide a comprehensive and transparent explanation regarding the management of two FIFA-funded stadium projects in Kebbi and Delta States.
Amadu raised concerns over the unequal visibility and progress reports between the two projects, noting that while the Birnin Kebbi stadium has attracted widespread attention and updates, the Ugborodo project in Delta State has remained largely out of public view.
“Definitely, the NFF has a case to answer because the money was released to them by FIFA, and they were the ones who recommended the contractors for the two projects,” Amadu said.
“So far, we have only seen the Kebbi State project trending on social media, while the one in Ugborodo, Delta State, remains unseen.
The NFF must come out clearly and explain the two stadiums, the grants, the contractors, and the progress of the other stadium.”
Amadu stressed the importance of transparency and accountability, urging the football body to disclose the exact amount of FIFA funding received, the contractors involved, and the implementation timelines for both facilities.
The projects were launched under FIFA’s Forward Programme, which aims to promote grassroots football infrastructure across member nations. However, the imbalance in updates and visibility between the Kebbi and Delta projects has raised public doubts over the NFF’s management of international grants.
In response, the House of Representatives adopted a motion of urgent public importance, establishing a special ad-hoc investigative committee to probe the NFF’s handling of FIFA and CAF development funds.
The committee is expected to summon NFF President Ibrahim Gusau and General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi to provide detailed explanations on how the funds were utilized.
This latest development comes amid growing concerns about transparency in Nigerian football administration, particularly in the management of infrastructure projects and international grants meant to foster football growth at the grassroots level.
