Alex Iwobi has etched his name into the history books, becoming the Nigerian player with the most Premier League appearances after featuring in Fulham’s 1–0 loss to Arsenal over the weekend.
The 29-year-old midfielder made his 299th appearance, surpassing Shola Ameobi’s long-standing record, and did so fittingly against his former club at the Emirates Stadium.
Iwobi put in a composed display, completing 33 passes (including eight into the final third), creating four chances, and delivering one accurate cross. He also contributed defensively with four tackles, two interceptions, and three recoveries, underlining his all-round value to Marco Silva’s Fulham side.
This season, Iwobi has featured in all eight of Fulham’s Premier League matches, registering two assists and one goal, and has been a key part of the team’s push to improve on last season’s mid-table finish.
Since making his Premier League debut for Arsenal in 2016, Iwobi has been a model of consistency across three clubs: Arsenal, Everton, and Fulham. Over the years, he has evolved from a deep-lying playmaker into a versatile attacker, capable of operating both centrally and on the wings depending on tactical demands.
While often understated, Iwobi’s work rate, discipline, and adaptability have earned him respect from teammates, coaches, and fans alike. As he edges closer to the 300-appearance mark, the Super Eagles star continues to serve as an example of professional longevity and consistency for the next generation of Nigerian footballers.
