Nigeria’s sprint queen, Tobi Amusan, added another medal to her glittering career on Monday as she stormed to silver in the women’s 100m hurdles at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo.
Amusan, the current world record holder, ran a brilliant race in the final, clocking 12.29 seconds, but narrowly missed out on gold. Switzerland’s Ditaji Kambundji stole the spotlight with a spectacular performance, setting a new national record of 12.24s to clinch the top prize.
The United States’ Grace Stark took bronze with a time of 12.34s, while her compatriot Masai Russell finished just outside the podium in fourth place at 12.44s.
Despite missing out on gold, Amusan’s silver medal marks a proud moment for Nigeria, further solidifying her reputation as one of the world’s elite hurdlers. Her consistency at the highest level continues to inspire a new generation of African athletes.
