Ndidi, who joined Leicester in 2017 from Genk, was a key figure during the Foxes’ rise under Brendan Rodgers and remained a steady presence through their relegation and eventual Championship promotion last season. He registered one goal and five assists in 30 appearances in 2024/25.

Why It Matters

His signing represents a key part of Solskjaer’s squad rebuild amid pressure on the Norwegian tactician.

Besiktas suffered a 4-2 defeat to Shakhtar Donetsk in the first leg of the Europa League second qualifying round, a result that has intensified speculation over Solskjaer’s future. Despite only joining the club in January 2025, the former Manchester United boss is reportedly under scrutiny, with Nuri Sahin and former manager Sergen Yalcin linked as potential replacements.

The Bigger Picture
Ndidi had attracted interest from several clubs across Europe, including Everton, Valencia, and Real Betis. However, the Nigerian opted to join Solskjaer’s project in Istanbul, in what could prove a pivotal addition for the Turkish side ahead of the new season.
