GAA Akanbi Players Celebrates a goal at the AMAPRO Football Championship in Ilorin Kwara State

Defending champions Abraysports FC and  Gaa Akanbi FC have secured their places in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Amapro Football Championship following impressive wins on Matchday two of the tournament.

Gaa Akanbi FC saw off a spirited HMK FC side 2-0 thanks to second-half goals from Olookoba Abdulgafar and Hameed Hameed in the 61st and 73rd minutes respectively to book their passage to the knockout round.

Meanwhile, Abraysports FC had to dig deep to edge Laycon FA 2-1 in a thrilling contest. Laycon took the early lead through Olasunkanmi Mukhtar in the 10th minute, but the champions responded with goals from Olatunji Subomi and a dramatic late winner by Kolawole Lateef in the 90th minute to keep their title defence on course.

Elsewhere, Gateway FA bounced back in devastating fashion, thrashing DollyP FA 5-1. Bello Adebanjo scored a brace—including an early penalty—while Ogunsusi Sukanmi, Olaide James, and Ilesanmi Taiwo also got on the scoresheet. Ikechukwu Nwankwo netted DollyP’s only goal in the first half.

Araba FC earned their first win of the tournament with a 2-0 victory over Da Faria, courtesy of a first-half brace from Ridwan Olanrewaju. The result keeps Araba’s hopes of progressing alive.

KFA and Dickalo FA played out a 1-1 draw in one of the day’s more balanced encounters. Timothy Maxwell gave KFA the lead in the 73rd minute, but Moses Ajiboye rescued a point for Dickalo with a late equalizer.

Kasam FA turned on the style with a commanding 3-0 win over Unity FA. Substitute Kolawole Opeyemi proved to be the difference-maker, coming off the bench to score twice in the second half, while Hassan Hafiz added a third to cap off a dominant display.

The much-anticipated clash between NPFL All Stars and HOP FA ended in a 1-1 draw. HOP stunned the star-studded All Stars with an early goal from Adama Isaiah, but Mubarak Gata leveled from the penalty spot just before halftime.

In the final fixture of the day, Discovery Talent FA outclassed Excel FA 3-1. Despite going behind to a 30th-minute goal from Lawal Opeyemi, Discovery responded strongly through Mustapha Abdullahi, Mujahid Dabai, and Abdulrasak Muhid to claim all three points.

With two wins from two, both Abraysports FC and Gaa Akanbi FC have punched their tickets to the quarterfinals, with other teams now left battling for the remaining slots as the group stage nears its climax.
