Nigerian forward Joy Omewa and her Danish club, Fortuna Hjørring, were officially crowned champions of the Danish Women’s League on Saturday following a goalless draw against FC Nordsjælland at the Nord Energi Arena.
Although the league title had been sealed weeks earlier, the result marked a fitting end to a dominant season for both the club and the red-hot striker.
Fortuna Hjørring wrapped up a domestic double, having also secured the Danish Women’s Cup. Omewa was instrumental throughout the campaign, scoring an impressive 22 goals in 23 matches to claim the league’s Top Scorer award.
In recognition of her stellar performance, Omewa was awarded a special prize that included a one-month use of a Mercedes-Benz vehicle, highlighting her significant impact during the season.
The former Confluence Queens star now turns her attention to the UEFA Women’s Champions League next season, fulfilling a lifelong dream shared by many professional players.
With the 2025 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) set to begin next month, Omewa’s explosive form could earn her a national team call-up from Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu, as Nigeria seeks to assemble a formidable squad for the continental tournament.
