The Confederation of African Football (CAF), in partnership with TotalEnergies, is set to unveil a brand-new CAF Champions League trophy and identity ahead of the highly anticipated final between Mamelodi Sundowns and Pyramids FC.
The unveiling ceremony will take place on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at the TotalEnergies offices in Johannesburg, South Africa.
According to CAF, the event will be attended by African football legends and representatives from the two finalist clubs, in a move aimed at heightening excitement ahead of the two-legged showdown.
“This event signifies a new, bold, and exciting chapter for African club football, as CAF continues to elevate the profile and image of CAF Interclub Competitions,” the statement read.
The unveiling will serve as a symbolic start to the final, with the trophy representing what both teams will be fighting for in Tshwane and Cairo over the next two weeks.
Mamelodi Sundowns, fresh from defending their domestic title, are looking to clinch a second continental crown. They come into the final as slight favourites after eliminating reigning champions Al Ahly.
Pyramids FC, meanwhile, are appearing in their first-ever CAF Champions League final, having edged Orlando Pirates in a dramatic semifinal in Cairo.
The final promises to be a historic contest, and the introduction of the new trophy adds an extra layer of prestige and anticipation to African football’s premier club competition.
