Eko Football Women Tourney Kicks-Off In Onikan As Clubs Rain Goals

“We are very happy with this competition, we thank the Lagos State Football Association( LSFA) for organising this championship and accepting us to participate, even though we lost, we feel proud competing against this clubs, if get more of this kind of championship, the sky won’t be the limit for women football  in Lagos but the country as a whole”. Rosemary Okoye, captain of St Joseph Private School stated. She said this much after their match at the ongoing Ekofootball Women Championship, holding at the legendary Onikan Stadium, Lagos.

Speaking further, Okoye whose side lost by six goals to nil said that these is the first competition they are participating in and it was very good experience, adding that they will come back in their next match much stronger and better.
Also speaking after the match between Apapa Golden Queens football club and St Joseph Private School which ended 6 goals to zero, five goals heroine, Taibat Odueke expressed satisfaction with the output of her team generally, saying it was a team effort. “Football is a team sport, if my teammates in the midfield did not pass the ball to me maybe I won’t have scored the goals, hence kudos should go to the entire team”. Odueke revealed.

After the first round of matches in the four groups, a total of 31 goals were scored, making the championship a very high goal scoring championship.
In the day 1 of the championship organised by the Women Football Committee of the Lagos State FA Adex Queens football club walk-over Owo-Igbe football club, while Victory Queens football club had the better of Lakeside Queens football club by four goals to zero.
In the third match of  day 1, Phoenix Queens football club lost by two goals to Young Talent 99 Angels, while Ijamido Angels football club defeated AB Shooting by four goals to one to secure three points.

Day 2 saw Dream Stars football Academy held Jagunmolu Queens football club to a 2-2 draw in the first match of the day, while Folashade Ijamilusi captained Spring Soccer Academy lost to JOJO Queens football club by three goals to one.
Apapa Golden Queens football club pummelled St Joseph Private School by 6 goals to zero, while Royaltom Queens football club walked over Amajo Queens football club.
Wale Joseph, Chairman, Women Football Committee expressed satisfaction over the outcome of the championship so far, praising the players and officials of the clubs for their discipline so far, urging them to keep it up. The second round of matches will hold next weekend at the same venue.
